Reading records must be signed by an adult twice a week (Monday and Thursday). Please ensure that they read a minimum of 5 pages on both occasions.
In addition, your child will be given individual spellings to learn, spellings will be sent home on a Friday. They will have a weekly spelling test, which takes place every Thursday morning.
Please ensure planners are brought to school every day.
In Maths, we are working on algebra as well as fractions, decimals and percentages. We are also continuing to solve word problems using the 4 operations.
We have been promoting our status as a healthy school by writing letters about the benefits of riding a scooter to school. In addition, we have had the opportunity to become pen pals with residents at Home Lea and are eagerly awaiting our replies at the moment. To encourage cross-curricular links further we will be writing poetry, as well as a non-chronological report on the Big 5 which gives the children the opportunity to practice their skimming and scanning techniques when note taking and planning. To complete our non-fiction children will be writing an explanation text in R.E before we move onto extended story writing.
In English we are reading ‘Wonder’ by R J Palacio ‘. A current and topical novel which I am sure will spark lots of interesting discussion in class.
The following PE times should be noted:
Monday pm Outdoors with Miss Aveyard
Indoors with Mrs Grover
Please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in school, including suitable outdoor trainers for Monday afternoon.
