We have already started with our exciting events!
Leeds Book awards
Over the last few months, some of our Year 6 children have been busy reading the books that were nominated for the Leeds Book Awards. They attended the awards ceremony at Pudsey Civic Hall with Mrs Frost where they met the authors and had their books signed. This was the winning author, Jane Elson, whose book 'A Room Full of Chocolate' was a favourite of our children.
From Monday 6th October to Friday 10th October, the children at Rothwell Victoria Junior school enjoyed an exciting week of poetry. The children learned about, and wrote a range of poems including haikus, kennings, acrostic and shape poems. The last day was a celebration of all the work the children had done and an opportunity to dress as their favourite book character!
There were different competitions running throughout the week.
The winners of the fancy dress competition was:
Winnie Pepper (Yellow)
Joseph Eltuni (Green)
Chloe Brown (Indigo)
Jessica Edwards (Blue)
Marnie Thompson Orange)
Lydia Marsden (Red)
The winners of the spoken poetry competition was:
Billy Parker (Green)
Hannah Brown and Lydia Marsden (Red)
On Friday 24th October, Rothwell Victoria School celebrated their new sign and school motto, "It takes all the colours to make a rainbow!"
The children and adults were all invited to dress in their class colour, either red, orange, yellow, green, blue or indigo and enjoyed rainbow themed activities throughout the day. Some children enjoyed art based activities, such as colour mixing and drawing rainbow trees, while others incorporated the rainbow activities into their literacy sessions by writing an acrostic poem and a mnemonic for remembering the colours of the rainbow!
Everyone was especially grateful to Mrs Duplessis, who baked and iced 150 buns in our class colours for us all to eat and enjoy!
